The love between Shiva and Sati love story  is often described as pure and transcendental. It transcends societal norms and expectations, as Shiva, the austere ascetic, finds solace and completeness in Sati’s devotion and love. Sati’s unwavering commitment to Shiva, despite her father’s objections and societal pressures, exemplifies unconditional love.

"Shiva's Divine Manifestation:

Shiva’s main deity is Ram. Because he keeps Ram in his Manas ( heart ) . Therefore, we hereby come across a book called ‘Ramcharita Manas’ composed by Goswami Tulsidas. Basically, Ram meant everything to Lord Shiva.

"Shiva's and Sati's Sacred Sojourn: Journey to the Rishi's Ashram":-

In Tretya Yug, One day, Shiva’s concert, Maa Sati asked Shiva about his ishtdev. Shiva humbly answered that Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram or Parambrahma Sachidanand was his most followed deity. Sati excitedly asked for a description about Shri Ram.
{ Ek baar treta juga mahi || Sambhu gaye Kumbhaja rushi payin || Sang Sati jagat janani bhavani || Puje Rishi akhileshwar jaani || }. Shiva and Sati planned to go the hermitage of Rishi Kumbhaj or Agasti, so that they together can listen Ramcharitmanas from the sage. Shiva and Sati started their expedition from the mount kailash to the southern most tip,Tamil Nadu, where the Rishi’s ashram was present.

When Shiva saw Kumbhaj rishi, he vowed to him and paid his respect. Here comes the turning point, When Sati saw that Shiva, who is revered by all the sages, is vowing to a normal human, she got baffled and started taking it as a sign of humiliation. Both of them sat on a mat and the Rishi started vocalizing the Ramcharitmanas. Shiva, in a peaceful mind listened to him passionately and got pleasure after listening about his ishtdev. But in contrast, Sati couldn’t stop thinking about the action which Shiva did by vowing to the Rishi. She completely lost her focus and was just contemplating about Shiva’s strange behaviour.

When the session got completed, Shiva and Sati again started their journey to the abode of Mount Kailash. Simultaneously, when Shiva and Sati were returning from the south, Lord Ram and Lakshman were coming southwards and were searching for Maa Sita. Shiva seeing him , bowed instantly. Again the action of Shiva pushed Sati into the world of confusion. Sati , not being able to control her worry, finally asked Shiva that why was he paying his respect to such a common man. Shiva, twinkling, said her that he was no common man , infact he was the person about whom they have listened from Rishi Kumbhaj just a little while ago. Sati , more and more bewildered said,”How can this common man be your Lord?, He couldn’t be the Parambrahma about whom we have listened just a little time ago.,He seems just like a mortal prince and not Shri Sachidanand.” Then, Shiva said “No, dear he is my Lord, my Shri Ram”. Sati couldn’t believe him and said , ” If he is Sachidanand, the name which actually means ‘Sat’ (who knows the truth) , why did he run behind a Swarna Mruga even after knowing that there’s nothing exists like a Golden dear. The next comes ‘Chit’ ( which means one who have all knowledge ) , how can a man who is asking where did his Sita go to plants and trees have all knowledge? And lastly ‘Anand’ ( which means happiness) , how can a man who is crying for his wife, be the symbol of happiness?”. Even after Shiva’s lots and lots of explanations that he was none other than the Parambrahma, Sati couldn’t agree. She said, ” If he is truly Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram, then I will test him.” Shiva said,” Okay Sati, you may test him but the result will be worse”. Not listening to Shiva’s instructions………..

After a short time period, when Ram and Lakshman reached there, Lakshman not being able to recognise the Maya , became happy that they found Maa Sita. But Shri Ram, smiled gently and did a ‘Dandavat Pranam’ to Devi Sati and said,” I am Ayodhya narapati, darshrathasuta, Ram.Maa, why are you loitering? Where’s Mahadev?”. Sati became shocked and highly embarassed. Sati disappeared but she saw that whichever path she was taking , she had Lord Ram, Lakshman, Maa Sita ahead of her.She felt so baffled that she directly went to the place where Lord shiva .

When Lord Shiva asked her about how she took the test ,Sati lied to him him she took no test plus she add that,”Which test are you asking about dear? I never did any test. I knew that he was no one other than Ram.,You bowed him from a distance but I went closure and bowed to him”.But who can ever lie to the Trikal Darshi Mahadev? Same happened here, Shiva knew that Sati took the form of Maa Sita. He decided mentally to desert Sati as Sita was like mother to him. But as Shiva loved Sati dearly, he couldn’t openly convey his decision to her. Shiva, being furious sat on Samadhi for around 84,000 years. Sati , in this time period, worried, grew thinner and thinner and she didn’t even knew the reason for Shiva’s lividness. When Shiva opened his eyes from the Samadhi , Sati went to him and when she bent to sit in the left hand side of Shiva, which is a wife’s place, Vrusha Ketu or Shiva halted her in the middle and asked her to sit in front of him which is a mother’s place. Shiva said,” As you had taken the form of my mother, Maa Sita, from nowhere You are my mother , not my wife”. Sati realised her mistake and wailed.

Actually Daksha Prajapati and his wife, Prasuti had 60 daughters. The eldest of them was Sati. From her birth only, Sati wanted to marry Shiva. But Daksha didn’t want her to marry lord Shiva but reluctantly he had to agreed. Sati said that she wants to go there and confront her father. Shiva tried stopping her from going to place where she’s not invited . But Sati did not listen to him and said,” Why did a daughter need an invitation to visit her father’s place?” Shiva explained her the reason that why they were not invited. Shiva said,”Once Daksha Prajapati, that son of Brahma who was born from his thumb, was to be given charge with the formation of the World. He organised a yagyan in Prayag. He invited everyone including me . When he entered the yagya sala, everybody except me stood up to pay him obeisance. I was lost in devotion of Shri Ram.Daksha was offended and cursed me that nobody ever will make a worship to me in any yagyan. I was affronted and left the yagyan., To further humiliate me he had organised this yagyan”. Sati ,however, was adamant on her statement and unresisting.

Shivagana seeing this grew inflamed and started a war. Mahamuni Bhrugu, the head priest of the yagyan gave such a ‘Ahuti’ in the yagyan kund that the Shivagana were defeated in a single blow. Shivagana retreat back and seeing them coming alone, Shiva understood that something serious must have happened. Nandi , the gana chief , narrated everything to Shiva. Shiva became incandescent, uncontrollable and uprooted a ‘jata’ from his hair and threw it on the ground. From there born ‘Veerbhadra’ . He asked Shiva what can he do to serve him. Shiva gave him order to kill the proudy Daksha and annihilate everyone present in the yagyan. Veerbhadra went straight to kill Daksha Prajapati.

His anger converted into water coming out of eyes after seeing the deceased body of Sati. Taking the late body of Sati in his hand he began performing Tandava and the departed body of Sati broke into several pieces; her eyes fell somewhere, her hand, her vagina which created 51 Shaktipeeths in India ( 51 parts of her demised body). Later on , Prasuti requested Shiva to bring back the life of his husband. But as the head of Daksha had already burnt in the fumes, Shiva beheaded a goat and placed it’s head in the place.
